Gretel Zanotti unveils her F/W 2016-2017 collection inspired by "Japonism"
The creative journey of Gretel Zanotti for the collection FW 2016/2017 begins with Toulouse-Lautrec and the “oriental fever” that, around in 1860, spread into Europe. The “Japonism”, or the influences that the Asian world exercised on art and culture of Europe, invades her mind as a redundant motive.
Passionate about this culture, she explores its themes, forms and applications, she studies its colors and lines, rituals and the body language, its symbolism of animals and plants.
She stops her attention on the fascinating character of the “Geisha” as her new muse, icon of femininity, beauty and uniqueness. She remains attracted to her aura of mystery, her elegance combined with her discreet and refined eroticism, her strength and confidence, but also her inner melancholy and her guarded secrets. Gretel presents her interpretation of the modern Geisha through her creations and refers at the same time to the dominant themes of the nineteenth century Asian culture, showing the same flat lines, the same clean and clear cuts, same contrasting colors and contour lines without shades. Always passionate to the nature theme, and aware that te world view of the Japanese culture happens through it, she manually reproduces and reinterprets on the fabrics the same natural and traditional motives.
